Should I just sell it to a local LGS for parts, and try to recuperate some of what I spent? (If it runs steelcase, then I'll probably keep the gun) Is it worth it to rebarrel the gun if I can't get it to run steelcase? Is it safe to try and run steel case in this gun? (It ran 20 rounds of S&B soft point) A friend told me that the gun might still run with steel case ammo, which I have a ton of, but the nearest range that will allow me to shoot that stuff is about an hour away and it's a bit of a bummer that it can't run brass. I was told that I could get it rebarreled, but the lowest K98 barrel that I can find is about $100 and I don't even know what the cost would be to swap the barrels out(I'm going to try and see if another LGS knows a gunsmith that can do the job). The barrel is pitted and it's an absolute pain to open the bolt and extract the brass after firing(the brass is heavily marred and scratched but not dented). After multiple cleanings and multiple attempts to get the gun to run properly with brass case, I was basically told that the barrel is unsalvageable. Two years ago, I bought an M48 Mauser from an LGS for $350. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.īe sure of your target and what is beyond it.Ĭompetition open to all.
